President's Message

As we recently concluded the celebration of 160 years since our founding in 1865, we reflect on a truly successful anniversary year marked by meaningful achievements, renewed engagement and a deepened sense of institutional pride. What began with just 12 students in the basement of a church in Baltimore has grown into a vibrant, forward-looking institution. While much has evolved, our mission remains steadfast: to open doors of opportunity and transform lives through education.

This year is especially significant as we proudly conclude our Racing to Excellence Strategic Plan, guided by three core priorities: Academic Excellence, Student Success and the Long-Term Viability of the University. In this culminating year, we recognize that our progress was made possible through the collective efforts of many. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our campus community, alumni, donors, partners and friends whose unwavering support and commitment helped advance our strategic priorities and strengthen our historic institution.

Importantly, this report also represents a moment of transition. The strong foundation built through Racing to Excellence now positions us to move confidently into our next chapter — our new strategic plan, “Boldly Forward.” This plan builds upon our legacy while challenging us to advance academic distinction, deepen student success and drive innovation in ways that will shape Bowie State University for generations to come.

The accomplishments highlighted in this report reflect a year of momentum and impact. From elevating our academic standing to expanding opportunities for student success and enhancing the infrastructure that supports our long-term sustainability, these achievements demonstrate the power of shared purpose and intentional action.

At the heart of a Bowie State education are two defining hallmarks: entrepreneurship and experiential learning. We are committed to ensuring that every student graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset, equipped through both academic and co-curricular experiences that foster innovation, creativity and critical thinking. Through internships, faculty-student research, study abroad, community engagement and other high-impact practices, our students gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed beyond the completion of their degrees.

As you review this Annual Report, I hope you will take pride in all that we have accomplished together during this milestone year. Even more, I hope you will see these successes as a strong foundation for the future we now pursue through Boldly Forward.
